History
Allenwood Celtic AFC was formed in 1991.
The main driving forces behind the starting of the club were Peter O’Neill, Pat
Ryan, Billy Coyne, Jim O’Rourke and Ted Carroll. That year Allenwood Celtic entered Division
3B of the Leinster Junior League with just one team. The club played with the name Blue Celtic
and the first game was against Liffeybank (now Leixlip Town) and was also Liffeybank's first
game.
The first season proved to be a bit of a struggle - in fact the club had to go for
a full eight games before they recorded their first victory. The 1992/93 season
saw Allenwood field two teams, the first operating in Division 1 of the Leinster
Junior League and the second operating in Division 3B of the same league.
With the advent of the new Kildare Junior League in the summer of 1994 it was decided
to join up however the club reverted to having just one team as it was felt that
by doing this it would increase competition for places. During that inaugural year
of the Kildare Junior League, Allenwood had a ‘dream season’ capturing both the Division
2 League and Cup double.
One the most important phases of the clubs history was the purchase of a playing
field on the Edenderry Road, just outside the village of Allenwood. In the coming years, the
club hopes to provide first class facilities, both on and off the field for the
local community.
Allenwood Celtic Senior team currently plays in the Wallace Trophies Division 2 and is managed by Siddy Coyne.
